To reduce the glacier melt, it is white washed
Peruvian Andes is a mountain summit which is white washed to the melting. Peruvian is a bizarre sight situated at a height of 15,600 feet which is above sea level. The white polishing is done at such a peak height which will recuperate the melting .The idea of white polishing the glaciers was done by an inventor Eduardo Gold. Gold has started an organization which is non governmental and the name of the organization is Glaciares de Peru.Glaciares de Peru received as many awards for its contribution and was one among 26 winners
of the world bank.
A competition named 100 ways to save the planet which was held in 2009 Glaciares was one of the winners. The prize money of $200,000 is taken as to fund Gold’s pilot project which will happen soon. The aim of Gold is to paint some 173 acres which is on three peaks situated in the Andean region. The Andean Region is situated at Ayacucho in south Peru which is getting white washed. The white washes are done with the help of jugs instead of paint brushes.
The workers splash the whitewash and rocks which is on the summit to white wash the peaks. The workers have white washed around two hectares which is just a tenth of the total area. The reason behind the white wash is to reflect the sun rays into the space which will cool the area. The project is based on a simple principle reflection and how different objects reflect. The whitening will not absorb heat and lessen the reduction of infra red radiation. Thus this will help to keep the globe warm and trap the green house gases and reduce the
global warming.
